I REALLY want to show you the WHOLE thing about this project, but instead I’ll just show you two pictures as a tease for a later story. They’re the pictures of the day for today, but they’ve been in the works since last week at this time. And you know, I think I’m just going to let you wonder. To let the pictures speak for themselves and see what happens….:)

Pictures of the Day: May 13, 2015
This one is in honor of our friend Diego. 🙂
Check out the really difficult task we’ve been working on with completing our series of books. This is BIG first grade work, but they’re definitely up to the task. This was what our morning looked like today:
And this one’s just because I know you were wondering what my shoes looked like today. 🙂 Right? 🙂 #dontforgetthekookyteacher

We are in the midst of MANY crazy and creative projects right now. This picture was taken during one of them:
First of all, I wish that iPad cameras had flash. Just sayin’. 🙂
So we’ve begun our first cycle of #geniushour in Rm. 202 and we’ve wrangled in our Learning Buddies to help us! I’m super impressed with how quickly these kiddos have gotten into these projects and how personal and interesting they are! We’ve got things from glass and The Leaning Tower of Pisa to ice cream and tornadoes, with loads of other things in between. SUPER excited to see what these friends come up with and will be sure to share their projects and learning when we’ve finished! #somanysuperthingshappeningrightnow

This picture is from something that happened today as we embarked on (yet another!) inspiring project:
It’s related to a really cool conversation we had the other day about ways to show that you care for someone, and the idea sparked a HUGE idea for venues outside our classroom that we could spread the love. We watched a @wonderopolis video about hashtags today, and so as we began to brainstorm, Millie wanted us to create our own brand new hashtag. Well…I think we did it. These are the only two tweets that come up when you search the hashtag #nicethingstodoandsay, which tells me that those are the only two tweets that have been written. And they’re both ours. (Ok, yeah, and don’t tell us if it’s not true–hee hee). CANNOT wait to show this to Rm. 202 kiddos tomorrow!

See this BEAUTIFUL bouquet? It was made with contributions from all of my Rm. 202 firsties! They each brought something, and Mrs. McPheeters helped put them all together. The week just kept getting better and better, and this was a nice way to top it off!

I guess this picture isn’t specifically related to anything that happened in Rm. 202 on Friday, but it did happen in our teachers’ lounge: my 1st Grade team made breakfast for the staff! We offered waffles (both whole wheat and buttermilk) as well as 3 kinds of smoothies! It was a big hit, and festive, happy way to start a day and end a great Teacher Appreciation Week! Aloha!
Alright…then there are a few more fabulous things that came from my super-generous Rm. 202 families that I didn’t get pictures of, but that definitely added to my happy Friday. Hummus and pita, another Old Navy gift card, a glass of candy with a Target gift card, and a really cool BEARDEN acrostic poem with chocolate attached to the wrapping! I feel so loved and well taken care of and am so thankful for my Rm. 202 families! You make this job worth it!
Picture(s) of the Day: May 7, 2015
I put the S in parentheses like that because there really was only 1 picture that I was going to share today (and we had it figured out by like 9 am!). Then that picture changed because of something super sweet that happened later on in the day, but I couldn’t decide. So you’ll get bith. Well really all three. Here’s what I mean:
So these kooky kids all showed up with their shirts on backwards today, and when I saw it, I knew it was our picture. Silly!!
Yeah, but then this happened:
Yeah, I tell ya, Rm. 202 friends, you’re outdoing yourselves as each new day comes! This one is extra special because it’s handmade. Hee hee–get it? HANDmade? LOVE it! And look, we found the perfect place to hang it. This was a blank space on our wall by the mailboxes that was the PERFECT size. And it’s right by our carpet, my computer table, the word wall–kind of in the middle of our area where everyone can see it! Meant to be, I’d say!
THANK YOU, Rm. 202 kids and families!!
Oh, wait, and I also got another sweet gift from Kylie and her mom (which I didn’t get a picture of, but that DID become my dinner tonight–win, win!!). Thanks a million for making me feel so loved!! 🙂

First Grade went on a super field trip to Powder Valley and the World Bird Sanctuary today! This picture was taken at the start of our day, and yes, we were looking into the sun, but we were excited and READY FOR FUN! We had lots of it, too! Stay tuned for a blog post with details about what we did! 🙂
Picture of the Day: April 29, 2015
If you are a friend in Rm. 202, this picture needs no explanation. But, since most of you have not been spending your weekdays from 8:30-3:40 with a room full of 1st graders, I’ll let you know what this pic is so wonderful. But first I’ll show it to you. 🙂
Our brave friend, Diego, broke his arm on Monday. 😦 He was gone recovering yesterday and WE MISSED HIM SO MUCH!! It was so special when he returned today and the class was so happy to see him. Then it got even better when this afternoon we were talking about our roses, buds and thorns for the day, and most everyone’s rose (their favorite thing from the day) was that their friend was back and that they knew he was ok. 🙂 I was also super impressed when, after receiving a big ‘ole pile of get-well-soon cards from us, Diego asked for everyone’s attention so he could say thank you to them all for being so kind to him (used the microphone and the official attention-getting signal and everything!). I am not kidding when I tell you I have the BEST CLASS IN THE WHOLE, WIDE WORLD!! 🙂
Pictures of the Day: April 21, 2015
Have you seen this feature yet? I was TOTALLY into last week, but so far this week I keep forgetting I am supposed to post a picture. That’s what I get for trying to go all in. Oh well, here are a couple of pictures that tell today’s story:

This pic kind of tells it all about what happened today: we worked for a long time on a design challenge, which started with solving a problem about how to organize the materials. We solve lots of problems together in Rm. 202, and often it happens on that red rug. 🙂

More of our wonderful mess! And I wasn’t going to post this HORRIBLE picture of me, but it tells one more part of today’s story: I ran 5 laps for Rm. 202 in Walker’s Club today (hence my rolled up jeans because I was so hot!). Everyone did a CRAZY GOOD job today with racking up lots of miles for our team. 🙂

One more: I couldn’t NOT share this pic of C.J.’s huge smile as he got started on designing something to help take care of his baby meerkat. Love it!
I Hope MY Teeth Don’t Fall Out!
I am pretty sure that we are up to tooth #16 lost in Rm. 202! And yes, I’m starting to get worried that MY teeth will start falling out! This week has been especially fruitful in the tooth-loosing venue, and yesterday was no different. C.J. lost one during Read Aloud and so got to join the Lost Tooth Club in the Nurse’s office!
And you know, I’m expecting to hear about another one from the weekend–Amelia was working really hard on a loose one today (big bites in her apple at lunch!). CRAZY stuff in first grade these days! I’d forgotten how exciting being 7YO is!!
